Raku Vase

$150.00

This piece was an experiment. I wanted to see if this black stoneware would withstand the stresses of raku. It was the only survivor of the lot. You can see the glaze wanting to shed away from the pot right before it was solidified and melted. A pot that i’m sure I couldn’t replicate if i tried.

Raku is an alternative firing process where pottery is rapidly cooled after firing then moved to a closed container with combustible materials. This reaction between the fire, glaze and lack of oxygen in the chamber causes the unpredictable flashes of metallic colour.
