About Owen
I am Owen Davies. A full time artist, potter and musician working out of Kingston Ontario for the past decade.
I have always been an artist first and potter second. Clay just happens to be the current medium of choice to express myself.
My exploration and fascination with ceramics has always been with the clay itself. The varieties and personality of clay completely changes how I interact with each piece. This is a philosophy passed down to me by my teachers. Apprenticing under Jackie Jamieson, a highly skilled, deliberate and thoughtful potter. Throws thin, delicate, hand painted wares. And the late Gerald Warren, an encyclopedia of everything pottery. Threw quick, thick and groggy pots, allowed me to hone my skills as a production potter over the years.
Iām constantly trying to find the balance between these two contrasting styles. Striving to make crisp yet bold pieces.
I am constantly changing clays and I refuse to settle. I fear nothing more than making the same pots with the same glazes for decades to come. To be lulled into a sense of comfort and predictability. I strive to remain wide eyed and in awe of the process. I am always trying to push the limits of myself and the clay.
Always trying to make my next biggest pot.
